Now, I've walked passed this place hundreds of times as I'm ALWAYS somewhere in GWR, and every time I walk pass, it's empty. It looks super sad and there always 2 people eating which I assume are the actual staff members. Every time I build up the motivation to try Asia Ma, I went up straying to Ka Ka Lok as its more "happening". Well for once, we managed to pull through with our decision and enter this empty restaurant.

Yes, it was just me and Gian dining in at a Malaysian Chinese restaurant at 930pm. A bit awkward but, we figured maybe cause it's late? Who knows.

We were seated by the window by a friendly Malaysian (I assume) auntie, given menus and two baskets of prawn crackers (how generous ey) as we skimmed through the choices of food. Went for the menu with the Chinese words because that's where the good stuff is ey! Hehe

Anyway, I chose the dinner for us and we had fried rice, steamed chicken with fungi (takes 20 mins to prepare and no, it's not the fungi you think! It's herbal mushroom!), deep fried homemade tofu, and pot of Chinese tea for 2.

So 20 mins of chatting and prawn crackers later, I will quote Gian, "you chose well Sarah". Yes, the food was amazing. SUPER delicious! And huge in terms of portions!! We had extra for lunch the next day!

The steamed chicken with black fungi was very herbal, gingery and just plain delightful in terms of light flavours! It complimented the deep fried home made tofu super well because that was seasoned with Malaysian soy sauce, shrimp, spring onions and all kinds of robust flavours! Along with fried rice, it was TWO THUMBS UP FOR ME!

Altogether it was 15quid per person, and FYI, I have a lot of left over for lunch haha it's like you're paying for 2 meals!

Guys, don't be fooled by the emptiness of Asia Ma, their food is AWESOME! Next time, imma go try the fish head tofu hot pot and Assam fish. Exciting!!

Is it a rebrand or is it brand new? I'm not sure. What I do know is that it is very good and much much better than Asia Style that was here previously.

I'm surprised I'm the first to review TBH as Asiama has been here for a while. I have wanted to visit it for ages and I am glad I finally got the chance as the whole experience was really good. From the moment we arrived the staff were friendly and welcoming. It felt a bit like a Hong Kong cafe with the roasted meats hanging in the kitchen. We ordered a selection of dishes to share between four.... Here goes.... Roast duck, salt and chill chicken, Malaysian beef curry, char Sui Sichuan, authentic peppered chicken, fried rice, boiled rice and even some cheeky chips to help soak up the hangover.

The food was all pretty good. The Malaysian curry was superb, spicy and with loads of sauce it was a favourite. The salt and chill chicken was really tasty  and it was a great size portion. The Sichuan char Sui was my next favourite and was cooked really well. I also enjoyed the peppered chicken which had loads of peppers and onions as well as chicken. The only dish I was not that keen on was the roasted duck which was just a bit to chewy and fatty.

The staff obviously thought we did not have enough food as they then brought out some really tasty and authentic dim sum which they informed us was complimentary. It was a great touch. By the time the free oranges arrived I was stuuuuuuffed!

I'm tempted to give it 5, but I'm gonna go with four. Reason being the roasted  duck was a Wee bit disappointing and the competition for authentic Chinese restaurants in Glasgow is now red hot. Don't get me wrong this place is excellent and I will definitely be back.

Nearly forgot.... All that food and only 15 quid a head, bargain! Check it out soon Yelpers, it deserves more reviews.

Until recently you may have known this spot as Asia Style but a few month back all of a sudden over night it was called Asiama, I have no idea if this is a rebrand or new owners but either way we were keen to try it.

The decor inside Asiama is nondescript at best....so much so that I forgot to take pictures. This restaurant isn't about luxury and style, it is all about ordering food in a clean functional environment, eating it and leaving. Genuinely the only feature which stuck out to me in any way was the roast ducks hanging in a little window which looks into the kitchen, other than that nothing really caught my attention.

The staff were attentive, not overly friendly but never made us feel unwelcome. They were very helpful in clarifying dishes for us and when we wanted to order a whole roast duck our waitress talked us out of it as she thought we had ordered enough...which is great. Too often restaurants will let you over order without saying a word.

The menu was interesting enough, although smaller than we have come to expect in Chinese/Malaysian restaurants. We decided to just bypass the starters and jump straight into the mains. There were a few dishes which caught our attention and we set about ordering 5 dishes to share between 4 of us.

Let me run through them for you.

Malaysian Style Beef Curry - This was definitely the surprise hit of the night. We ordered this not really knowing what to expect. It was delicious and so moreish, the sauce was lightly spiced and slightly aromatic. The beef plentiful and tender. In all honestly we probably could have easily eaten two portions of this.

Salt and Chilli Chicken - This is one of my favourite chinese dishes. This version was flavourful and just hot enough for me, the chicken stayed relatively moist and the coating was crunchy and crisp. A nice version of this classic chinese dish (went well with the Malaysian curry sauce) I would order again for sure.

Chicken in Green Pepper and Black Bean Sauce -  this was a lovely little dish loaded with heaps of well cooked chicken and peppers. The sauce had a really great depth of flavour which left me craving more in the way that only a black bean sauce can.

Sichuan Char Sui - Another dish packed full of char sui, onions and peppers. The meat was cooked well and the sauce was  light, tangy and offered just a hint of heat. I would definitely order this again.

Half Chinese Roast Duck - Probably the tables least favourite dish, we actually left about 1/3 of it because it just wasn't interesting. The duck was tender enough but incredibly fatty and the skin wasn't as crispy as I normally like it. Wasn't really overly excited about this at all.

We threw into the mix a few portions of rice and chips which were nothing exciting or exceptional, they were just chips and rice.

To top all this off we were presented with 4 free pork dim sum towards the end of the meal.  I am assured by my buddy Austen they were 100% authentic. They were delicious and I did enjoy it but I think by the time they were presented I was so full that I couldn't properly appreciate them.

Price wise it worked out at £59 that included I think about 7 or 8 soft drinks. At that price you can't really fault the food that we got.

Is it better than say Asian Gourmet or Ka Ka Lok? No, but I would say for that style of no frills chinese dining it certainly holds its own alongside these restaurants. I very much enjoyed the food and the company and will more than lightly go back again soon.

The new and improved Asia style! I really hated Asiastyle so I'm happy that Asiama is a hit!!

Firstly the name is just awful!! ASIAMA? It's been opened for a while now but when we arrived it was dead and if you remember Asia style was such a busy place! We got a table no problem 6pm on a Sunday for 4.

We decided to share a bunch of main meals and went for the following -
Malaysian Beef curry - which was tremendous.
Salt and chilli chicken, complemented the curry very well.
Roast duck - bit fatty and slightly disappointing.
Char Sui - Sichuan style - very tasty
And last but not least black pepper chicken which was also very nice. All was served with rice and  a side of chips.

All the food was great I would definitely eat here again the staff were friendly more than Asia style and it was also reasonably priced. It's definitely worth a try!!

Twice I have been to Asiama and twice I have left feeling very happy indeed!

On both occasions however, the place was kinda deserted, which is a real shame. I feel for these guys, after all, they are sitting on the location of the former Asia Style, one of the most loved and adored Chinese / Malaysian cafes in Scotland.

My first visit consisted of a takeaway for 5 people which was scoffed at chateaux Pammi G. We ordered everything and anything. Malaysian curries, char sui, salt chilli chicken the lot. Basically there was so much I can barely remember what we had, which should teach me to write my reviews sooner. Anyway, all you need to know is every dish was bloomin' marvellous, that much I do remember, and there was also a 10% discount on all takeaway food.

After being so impressed the first time round I opted to sit in one evening with some friends. I was in a fishy kind of mood so ordered the steamed sea bass. It was beautifully cooked with ginger, soy sauce and spring onion. Having no idea how to tackle this said huge fish the owner came to our assistance and quickly began to fillet the fish in front of us. This spared my blushed and we were able to fully enjoy our meal without turning to YouTube for a short filleting tutorial.

On both occasions I finished my meal feeling very satisfied, paid a very fair price and felt the service was swift and friendly. Its unfortunate there is a lack of atmosphere to the place, but hopefully any negativity about this place opening will soon be forgotten and Asiama will be allowed to flourish as it really does deserve a chance to do well.
